Calm on the water

Jennifer Llewellyn sounds a chime as passengers Jon Werberg and Sarah Brunelle and Clearwater’s engineer, Miranda Holmes, meditate.

BEACON, NY — Every spring, summer, and fall, the 106-foot sloop Clearwater hosts public sails on the Hudson River, between Albany and New York City. That tradition continued with a two-hour “meditative journey” from Beacon on Saturday, July 13. In addition to hoisting the mainsail and observing a moment of silence, passengers and crew participated in meditation led by Jennifer Llewellyn, the chief wellness officer of Majestic Hudson, a lifestyle boutique in Katonah, N.Y. The next sail with Llewellyn aboard the Clearwater will be Sunday, Aug. 4, at 5 p.m., also from Beacon. 2019 marks a half century since the launch of the Clearwater and a century since the birth of Pete Seeger, who had the idea to build a boat as a way to build public support for protecting the Hudson.
